North End Patchwork

I make use of traditional and discarded materials, working with abandoned building materials (windows, tiles) and vintage quilt blocks to explore themes of resourcefulness, community, and resilience.

The ethos of the North End complements the themes present in my submission; community, diversity, and a resourceful DIY attitude. The piece I submit for consideration is a digital quilt that pays homage to the North End by incorporating 8 unique quilt blocks composed of colourful designs that represent the vibrancy and diversity of the community.

Image Description

Eight unique quilt blocks consisting of a traditional star block pattern made up of triangles and squares are arranged in a 2x4 column. Each block has a unique colour arrangement representative of the diverse North End community.

The North End of Halifax is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. The people of the Mi’kmaw Nation have lived on this territory for millennia, and we acknowledge them as the past, present and future caretakers of this land.
