#MMIW

I created this piece to draw attention to two big issues. First, the national crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous women in Canada. You can find information in the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and girls. The second issue being, human trafficking in Nova Scotia. Halifax has the highest rate of human trafficking in the country, 7.5 times higher than the national average. Our women and girls are being taken and I want it talked about and prevented. I hope this piece is able to spark awareness and conversation.

Image Description

A multicolored silhouette of a woman is pictured on a dark blue background with silver foil accents. #MMIW (Missing Murdered Indigenous Women) and a bright red handprint which symbolizes the silence and lack of attention given to victimized Indigenous Women, are pictured in the foreground.

The North End of Halifax is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. The people of the Mi’kmaw Nation have lived on this territory for millennia, and we acknowledge them as the past, present and future caretakers of this land.
