Living Layers

Our North End neighborhood is represented in my painting called “Living Layers”. For me, each bright colour in this abstract painting represents the diverse personalities and perspectives in our area. As we go about our lives in the North End, we encounter so many cultures and diverse backgrounds, each with such unique stories. As we experience the great restaurants, coffeeshops, art galleries, and gift shops alongside each other, a community connection is made. Like the layers of colours in my painting, the encounters with people create living layers in our daily lives. I named this piece “Living Layers” for that reason.

We are all connected and we all provide unique colourful stories to our neighborhood, the North End. What a great place to be!

The North End of Halifax is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. The people of the Mi’kmaw Nation have lived on this territory for millennia, and we acknowledge them as the past, present and future caretakers of this land.
