Samburu Woman

"Samburu Woman" is from my theme African woman. In this painting, I'm portraying the culture and beauty of the Samburu woman, a community found in the northern part of Kenya. I think that having been in Nova Scotia for Six months now and currently participating in the NOISE makers ongoing program at Wonder'neath, I'd like to show my work to the community here in Halifax as I get to introduce to them something new from Africa and in turn getting to see diverse artworks from other Artists.

Image Description

Oil painting on canvas depicting side-profile of Samburu woman from Kenya. The woman has short hair on the top of their head and a gold hoop hanging from their ear. The woman is wearing clothing with red, yellow, and blue stripes. The background features abstract colours in blue and white; similar to a blue shy with white clouds.

The North End of Halifax is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. The people of the Mi’kmaw Nation have lived on this territory for millennia, and we acknowledge them as the past, present and future caretakers of this land.
